Part Two: Online banking with a Netflix twist
Companies like Netflix and Spotify use recommender systems to great effect. What can the financial sector learn from this?
*This is a members only event running over two sessions. This is the second session. Members are more than welcome to participate even if they did not participate in the first session.
We are all used to seeing recommendations based on our viewing habits when scrolling through the Netflix menu. Streaming services such as Netflix and Spotify are experts at utilizing our data to learn our likes and dislikes in order to suggest content back to us. This provides each customer with a unique offering based entirely on their individual preferences.
The question is what effect these types of recommender systems can have in the banking- and insurance industry. Could the value proposition can be increased by supplying customers with suggestions based on data held by the company?
We have teamed up with an international line-up of experts with experience in implementing recommender system technology in financial services and retail:
- Professor Dr Dietmar Jannach from the University of Klagenfurt
- Dr Mehadi Elahi, and
- Dr Alain Starke, both from the Institute of Information Sciences and Media Studies at UiB.
During a 2 hour digital workshop, they will take us through the nature of recommender systems, using relevant examples and initiate a discussion with the participants as to how this technology can be translated to our sector.
The intention is to adapt the content of the session 2 based on your input from session 1 so that the experts can provide specific recommendations to participants.
